For over two decades, Dr. Whitney E. West has devoted her career to providing compassionate care to patients across Alabama. Initially drawn to veterinary medicine by her innate desire to aid others, Dr. West transitioned to obstetrics and gynecology, recognizing the profound difference she could make in the lives of human patients. Her dedication to the reproductive health of women and her steadfast commitment to providing excellent patient care has earned her the respect and garnered her the confidence of both patients and colleagues.

Dr. West provides an array of medical services pertaining to the reproductive health of women. Routine gynecological examinations and surgical services for various conditions including robotic assisted surgeries, contraceptive care and menopausal management are just some of the areas in which she possesses extensive expertise.

Dr. West has had a distinguished academic career. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Howard University with honors graduating Magna Cum Laude. She graduated from Meharry Medical College with honors graduating Summa Cum Laude, further demonstrating her commitment to education. Her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology was successfully concluded at the esteemed Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. West began her professional career with a dedicated commitment to the National Health Service Corps. Serving at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Huntsville, Alabama, she focused on underserved populations, upholding the mission of her medical school alma mater. These early experiences laid the groundwork for her future contributions to the field.

Dr. West has had an illustrious career in the medical field, with a diverse range of positions spanning various institutions. Her professional journey includes roles as a physician at Huntsville Hospital, the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University's Student Health Center, Premier OBGYN LLC, and South Huntsville OBGYN. Throughout her tenure, she has assumed authoritative positions such as Medical Director of the Huntsville Hospital Obstetric Emergency Department, overseeing both inpatient OB hospitalists and outpatient clinics. Additionally, she has held leadership roles such as Chief and Vice Chief of the Department of Women’s Services, Chair of the Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation Committee, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Staff at Crestwood Medical Center. Currently, Dr. West serves as the Chair of the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Committee and the Regional Perinatal Advisory Council for Region I, reflecting her ongoing commitment to improving maternal and infant health outcomes.

As a part of her commitment to serving her patients and advocating for her profession, Dr. West is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and a member of the National Medical Association. She credits her success to values and personal code of ethics, emphasizing that they have acted as a compass throughout her career. Dr. West underscores the need for medical professionals to treat patients with empathy and compassion and strives to treat her patients with the same care that she hopes to receive from other doctors.
