Whitney E. West, MD, FACOG, FABIHM
For more than 20 years, Dr. Whitney West has been showing up for women across Alabama—with heart, expertise, and a deep belief that exceptional healthcare should feel personal, not transactional. A board-certified OB/GYN and Fellowship trained Integrative Medicine physician, she’s built her career around listening deeply and providing compassionate, evidence-based care across every stage of a woman’s life.
Interestingly, Dr. West first considered becoming a veterinarian (she's always had a thing for nurturing), but it wasn’t long before she realized her true calling lay in supporting women through some of life’s most vulnerable, complex, and empowering experiences. From annual exams to robotic surgeries, birth control to menopause, she brings both advanced clinical skill and genuine humanity to every patient encounter.
Dr. West earned her Bachelor of Science from Howard University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and received her medical degree from Meharry Medical College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She completed her OB/GYN residency at the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania—an experience that shaped both her clinical excellence and her patient-centered approach.
From her early service with the National Health Service Corps to her ongoing roles in public health leadership, Dr. West has always sought to elevate care for underserved communities. She’s held senior positions at major institutions including Huntsville Hospital and Crestwood Medical Center, where she’s served as Medical Director of the OB Emergency Department, Chief of Women’s Services, and Chair of multiple quality and performance review committees.
Currently, she chairs the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Committee and the Regional Perinatal Advisory Council for Region I—work that allows her to directly impact maternal and infant outcomes at the systems level.
Dr. West is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine. She's also a proud member of the National Medical Association. Her career has been guided by a clear moral compass: treat patients the way she’d want her own loved ones treated—with respect, transparency, and compassion.
When she’s not delivering outstanding medical care, advocating for maternal health policy, or mentoring future physicians, Dr. West is probably trying to keep up with her two wonderful daughters and her four-legged companion, Moxie—who, she says, have been her biggest supporters and occasional unofficial office assistants. She credits them (along with coffee and a good sense of humor) for keeping her grounded through the many demands of modern medicine.
